Depositor’s Record, Jeremiah Turner

Jeremiah Turner held several ranks within Company H of the (Union) 12th Regiment of Heavy Artillery in the United States Colored Troops. He was burned in a train wreck as troops were being re-deployed.

This 14 March 1866 record indicates that, despite the war’s conclusion, Turner’s former slave status followed him.

Record (#628) for Jeremiah Turner (1840-1916), from Registers of Depositors’ Signatures in Branches of the Freedman’s Savings & Trust Company, 1865-1874. National Archives and Records Administration, micropublication M816, 27 rolls.
