Jonathan Rice Miles (1817-1903)

Jonathan Rice Miles (1817-1903), for whom Miles Station, Illinois is named.
From 1862 Colonel of the 27th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry.
“He is described in one book as “brave, honest, patriotic, broad minded, God fearing, zealous” and in another as “one of the most prominent citizens in the county…his active part in the upbuilding and development [of Macoupin county] and his service in the late war, having made him widely and favorably known,” relates Deborah Heal, author of Time and Again.
